Mindreel turns long-form podcasts and videos into short, insight-dense highlights, reels, and knowledge cards. This policy explains what the Mindreel iOS app collects, why, and the choices you have. We designed Mindreel to work fully without an account and without cross-app tracking.
The Mindreel app and the mind-reel.com website are operated by MindReel Labs Inc., a Delaware (USA) corporation, with its registered office at 16192 Coastal Highway, Lewes, Delaware 19958, USA ("Mindreel", "we", "us"). For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), MindReel Labs Inc. is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
Usage & product-interaction data. As you use the app we record product events such as screen views, playback actions (start, pause, resume, seek, progress, close), saves, follows, searches, “Ask AI” requests, and reels you build. These events are tied to a random, app-generated installation identifier (a UUID we create on the device — not Apple’s advertising ID and not your name or email). Because these events are keyed to that identifier, they are pseudonymous rather than fully anonymous, and we treat them as personal data where the law requires. We use this data to understand which features work, fix problems, and improve recommendations.
Preferences & library. The shows you follow, episodes you save, notes you write, and your playback/onboarding settings are stored on your device. If you sign in, these are also synced to our servers so you can restore them on a new device. Sync is keyed to your installation identifier.
Account information (only if you choose to sign in). Mindreel offers Sign in with Apple. If you use it, Apple shares your name and email only the first time you sign in, which we store to create your account. You may choose Apple’s “Hide My Email” private-relay address, in which case we never see your real email. We do not offer or collect any password, and we do not offer any other login provider.
“Ask AI” content. When you ask a question about an episode or the library, your question text is sent to our backend and to our AI model provider (Google, via the Gemini API) to generate a grounded answer from podcast transcripts. Google processes your question as our service provider to produce the answer. We may retain questions in aggregated or de-identified form to improve answer quality; they are not used to advertise to you and are not used by us to train third-party foundation models. Please don’t include sensitive personal information in your questions.
Diagnostics. The app records basic crash and performance diagnostics (via Apple’s MetricKit) to help us fix stability issues. If you use a beta (TestFlight) version of the app, Apple may additionally collect crash logs and any feedback you submit through TestFlight and share them with us, as described in Apple’s TestFlight terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have no plans to.
Where the GDPR applies, we process your data on these bases: performance of a contract (running the app and, if you sign in, your account and sync); legitimate interests (first-party analytics to understand and improve the product, and basic crash diagnostics — balanced against your rights, using a pseudonymous identifier rather than your identity); and consent where required. We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our behalf and under contract:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a corporate transaction (in which case this policy will continue to apply to data collected under it). We do not share your personal data with data brokers or advertisers.
Our servers run on Google Cloud in the United States. If you use Mindreel from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. Where the GDPR applies to a transfer, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses as implemented in our service providers’ data-processing terms. Podcast and video content itself is sourced from public feeds (RSS) and platforms such as YouTube for playback.
You can delete your account from within the app’s settings, which removes your account data from our servers. You can also email us (address below) to request deletion of any server-side data associated with your account or installation identifier, and we will delete it within 30 days unless the law requires us to keep it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. California residents have corresponding rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them — and, because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of. EEA/UK users may also lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. To exercise any right, email us at the address below; we will verify the request using your installation identifier or sign-in email.
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) between the app and our servers, and stored with access controls on Google Cloud infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we collect little, and the most sensitive choice — whether to identify yourself at all — is yours.
Mindreel is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Where local law sets a higher minimum age for consenting to data processing (up to 16 in parts of the EEA), that higher age applies. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above; for material changes we will also provide notice in the app.
